A good deed brightens a dark world, and Bismack Biyombo has made the world of many Congolese nationals a lot brighter. The 29 year old announced that he will donate his NBA seasonal salary to build a hospital in his native Democratic Republic of Congo. The sum of the donation is worth $1.3 million, which is what Biyombo’s contract with the Sun’s is worth, according to Spotrac Website.

“I told my agent that my salary for this year will be going to the construction of a hospital back home to give hope to the hopeless back home and those individuals that cannot take their family members out (of the Democratic Republic of Congo),” said Biyombo.

“I want to be able to give them better conditions so that they can be able to somewhat have hope that their loved ones that their loved ones will be able to live and see another day. I wanted to give them something that would continue to service people under his (Biyombo’s father) name” Biyombo added.

Bismack, through The Bismack Biyombo foundation, is not new to offering charity to the nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2020, during the early stages of the COVID 19 pandemic, the foundation played a huge role in containing the spread of the deadly corona virus by delivering medical equipment worth almost $1 million across the DRC.

The Bismack Biyombo foundation has also refurbished hospitals and ensured the smooth running of health facilities in the DRC. This may seem like an easy feat, but with limited resources and a political temperament that relies on corruption to function, it can be quite hard to have health facilities that run smoothly at all times. The Bismack Biyombo Foundation has also trained medical staff, who offer quality services to the DRC nationals.

This year, Biyombo wants to take his charitable deeds to a new level. “We are just trying to save as many lives as we can.” Said Biyombo. Building a hospital that meets international standards will serve people, hopefully for generations to come.

Biyombo has been known to honor his father’s memory through his performances on the court and through the efforts of the Bismack Biyombo Foundation. In a video posted on the Bismack Biyombo YouTube channel, Biyombo revealed that his love for the game fell a little bit when his father passed on because he was “my friend, my business partner, my mentor, my everything.”

“I wanted to make this year about my dad because my dad spent most of his life making his life about me, my brothers, my sisters, and servicing people.”

Biyombo’s father passed on in August 2021 at the age of 61. In an interview with Andscape, Biyombo said his dad had been diagnosed with Covid in July 2021. Although Biyombo’s father recovered from Covid, his ailment had created other health complications.

With such big shoes to fill and a legendary memory to honor, Biyombo has taken his grief and turned it towards helping people who may have no hope for the future. His donation will help people in the Democratic Republic of Congo to continue to live through tough conditions. By building a hospital named after his dad, he will honor his father’s memory by continuing to deliver good services to the people of Congo under his name.

Although Biyombo took a break at the beginning of the season to mourn his father, he is averaging 6.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and shooting 61.6% from the field for the Suns this season. Biyombo’s dedication to the game is as inspiring as his dedication to helping out the people in his homeland.
