The Congo river should in no doubt be amongst a tourist to do list when traveling to Brazzaville.
The popular river is home to thousands of species and gives a great view of the neighboring country the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As a way of boosting the tourism industry and helping tourists to better navigate and understand mysteries and discoveries about this river, Florian Prosper Missamou began his journey as a tour guide on the river in 2016 and has since helped many tourists and locals discover the Congo river, and experience the unique calmness and intriguing beauty of the river.
Florian takes us on his journey of how he started his tourist guide on the Congo river.
Please introduce yourself?
Je m’appelle Florian Prosper Missamou congolais de Brazzaville.
Translation: My name is Florian Prosper Missamou Congolese from Brazzaville.
We really like your initiative can you explain a
little what you do?
Thank you very much, it’s nice! I am a weekend planner and tourist guide, a large part of my activity consists of making people discover the life, the tranquility, the peace and above all the energy of these villages located on the Congo River between Brazzaville and Kinshasa , it is important to note that these villages constitute a magnificent archipelago that of Mbamou Island! With villages all so different from each other.
Why did you start this initiative to be a guide of
travel?
Over time I realized that the city was eating up a lot of my energy by dint of running around in administrations, professional places and others! I wanted to free myself from all this pressure!
One day in 2016 a friend who lives in one of these villages invited me to his village and that was the trigger! a place where you just have the sound of silence as far as the eye can see and in addition very modest people without pressure, without complex!
I fell in love with this simplicity, this lifestyle and, in 2018 I went there with friends who came from elsewhere who were looking for absolute calm, then I shared it with others too after the COVID 19 period in planning weekends in these villages.
What has been your best experience so far during
your job ?
As unlikely as it seems! My most beautiful experience so far is that of sailing on the Grand and majestic CONGO RIVER! On each trip I am paralyzed by her beauty, her calm and her energy! It’s an indescribable feeling.
what is your biggest goal as a travel guide and
Why ?
My biggest goal is for people to manage to connect with themselves and to understand that there are people very close to their homes who lack almost all these infrastructures that we meet in our cities but who nevertheless are very happy. Why ? I would say that society consumes us little by little and knowing how to let go is very important! whether in my travels or elsewhere but that people learn to take a step back! no one is immune to a BURN-OUT or any kind of depression related to the stress of active life.
Please explain how can someone book a tour with
you on the Congo River? What are the exact places your tour guide includes, where
