On Tuesday, February 22, President Macky Sall of Senegal and of the African Union, inaugurated a world-class stadium in Diamniadio, a new suburb of Dakar. The stadium named after Senegal’s former President Abdoulaye Wade, is a multipurpose stadium which now becomes the country’s flagship stadium. The stadium will also host the 2026 Summer Youth Olympics.
President Macky Sall was joined by other world leaders such as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Rwandese President Paul Kagame, Adama Barrow of Gambia, Umaro Embalo of Guinea Bissau and George Weah of Liberia, as well as FIFA and CAF Presidents.
The inauguration was followed by a luncheon the next day, attended by some of Africa’s “artists, men and women of culture” such as Youssou Ndour, Esther Kamatari, Alpha Blondy, A’Salfo Traore and Baaba Maal among others.
However, two faces were spotted at the luncheon and the Congolese diaspora all over social media could not be more proud and we are all for it.
